An immigrant residing in the United States without lawful immigration status. This includes individuals who entered without inspection (EWI), overstayed a valid visa, or had their lawful status revoked.
Those who originally entered legally (e.g., with a visa) but violated terms, such as overstaying or working without permission (causing their legal status to lapse) may also be named "Out of Status."
